The MRVHC was created in 1989 to support the planning and production of a variety of housing options within the Mad River watershed through education, information and advocacy. It serves as a resource for developers, individuals, municipalities and nonprofits, and is available to channel resources for revolving or subsidy loan programs. MRVHC is a registered 501(c)(3) organization serving the towns of Fayston, Warren, Waitsfield, Moretown and Duxbury.
In 2019 the MRVHC went through a period of reorganization and revitalization, with support from the Mad River Valley Planning District. With a fresh Board of Directors and broad community engagement, the MRVHC hired a local housing consultant to support the organization in implementing its mission; funding for the position was provided by the MRV Community Fund.
Strategy The Mad River Valley faces similar challenges to many Vermont communities struggling to keep up with housing demand. Recent MRV studies show a broad need spread across incomes, ages, and housing types. In our roles as “a resource, clearinghouse and potential funding administrator” (MRVHC Bylaws), the MRVHC is working to achieve short and long-term solutions. Through leadership, advocacy and direct actions we will:
Ensure stakeholders have access to the most current housing market information and housing related data points
Identify and communicate with all stakeholders
Identify short term goals that can address the immediate needs established via housing studies and research
Serve as a central source for MRV-specific housing information and resources through educational outreach and engagement
Collaborate with municipalities in the MRV to ensure all actions and decision - making are in concert with housing needs
Identify barriers to housing and determine short and long-term strategies to address those barriers
